When slow-cooked it is tender, juicy, and has such a delicious flavour! It is quite a versatile meat as well and can be sliced or shredded, so it's perfect for tacos, stews, chili, cut up for sandwiches, or just eaten with potatoes and a veggie!

Remember that Bison is a lot leaner than beef, which is why it's important to keep that temp low so as to not dry it out. You also won't see as much marbling or fat from a Bison roast, which means all 2kg is delicious meat.

Rangeland Bison and Elk was started in 2000, by Swiss immigrant farmer/rancher Armin Mueller. An opportunity presented itself and he decided to listen to his childhood dreams and spontaneously bought 400 bison cows! He was now in the Bison business with a herd that was growing. At the time of Armin’s purchase, the Canadian Bison business was still in its infancy and the market for Bison meat was just developing… It was a new challenge that Armin grabbed onto and through it emerged Canadian Rangeland Bison and Elk. Over the best 20 years, he was an integral part of the growth of the Bison industry.

With Armin's passing this fall, Rangeland is dedicated to carrying on his vision.

A deep love for bison and sustainable Ag productio

A deep love for bison and sustainable Ag production has always driven the people behind Canadian Rangeland Bison & Elk, which is exactly why company owners Armin and Rita Mueller donated $4 million in order to purchase land and start a new bison herd right at @lakelandcollege in 2020.

With this money and new opportunities, Lakeland can now expand its program as the only Canadian post-secondary school where students can actually manage bison for commercial purposes, along with beef, crop, dairy, and sheep enterprises. Additionally, students will also have more liberty to train in range and forage management, as well as participate in research projects with the @canadianbisonassociation and other industry partners.

With the acquisition of 8 quarters of land south of Vermillion, the bison will be finally heading to their new home soon after 2 years of setting this endeavor in motion! If you would like to follow along on the journey or are curious about the program please check out @lakeland_smf_bison.

By giving students the opportunity to work directly with bison and develop that hands-on experience, we hope to see more animal science and agricultural students aspire to raise bison themselves while maintaining the same dedication to sustainable agricultural practices that our own company has always spearheaded. As an animal with a strong place in Canadian history and imagination, we’re excited to see a future where new bison herds are filling the fields of Canadian ranches.

We are sure that Armin would be extremely proud to know that the Bison dream he worked so hard on most of his life will continue even after his passing and that the passion he had for these animals and agriculture will be able to be spread for many years to come to new generations through this program.
